Where does firefox install its extensions?

It took me a while to figure this out for all the OSes I use. The only solution I found for MacOSX was hidden inside a post about installing extensions globally.

Linux

On Linux, extensions are stored inside
~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile>/extensions
$(MOZILLA_DIR)/extensions

MacOSX

On the Mac, it's stored in
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/extensions
/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions
